Three free QR codes for your holiday rental

Between stays, the same questions keep arriving by message: the wifi password, check-out time, which day the bins go out. A guide left on the table answers a good share of them, as long as people read it and you keep it current. Three QR codes on Scanolo's Free plan cover the essentials: the wifi, a PDF welcome guide and reviews. Dedicated welcome guide apps go further, with recommendations or translations. What follows is a simple, free base that stays under your control.

The three codes, and what each one does

The Free plan includes three dynamic codes, with no time limit and no credit card. For a single rental, they split up quite naturally.

• Wifi. If the password never changes, use a static code: it's free, it doesn't count toward your three dynamic codes and it connects the phone in one scan. If it changes between guests, use a dynamic code, which opens a page with the network name and a password to copy.
• The welcome guide. A PDF we host, up to 5 MB, shown in the browser with a download button. You replace it when something changes, and the sticker stays the same.
• Reviews. A code that opens your listing on the booking platform, or the review form of your Google listing.

What to put in the welcome guide

A guide read on a phone should fit in one column, with short headings and at least a 12-point font. Aim for a file under 5 MB by compressing the photos before you export the PDF.

Be careful: the PDF is public. Anyone who scans the code, or who gets the link passed on, can read it. Leave out the key box code, the alarm code, and the exact address if you'd rather share it at booking.

• Arrival and departure: times, key handover, what to do before leaving.
• The home itself: heating, appliances, recycling and bin collection day.
• Useful numbers: yours, someone reachable nearby, emergency services.
• The area: shops, the market, walks, restaurants you know.
• House rules, if you have any.

Where to stick the codes, and how big

The wifi code goes where people settle when they arrive: the entrance, the living room table, the fridge door. A 5 cm sticker, read up close, is plenty. The guide sits on the table or in the welcome folder, with a code of 3 to 4 cm. The review code goes near the door, where people see it on the way out.

Keep dark modules on a light background and a white margin around each code. Test them with two phones before laminating, and write next to each one what it opens: “Wifi”, “Welcome guide”, “Leave a review”.

With a static wifi code, one dynamic code is left over. You could use it for a link page with your favourite spots, market days and your number, or for directions to the property for future guests.

Beyond one rental

With two or more properties, three codes each soon take you past the Free plan. The Starter plan, at €7 excl. VAT a month with no commitment, gives you 25 codes and folders to sort them by property. It also removes the “Made with Scanolo” mention shown at the bottom of Free plan pages, and keeps a year of statistics instead of 30 days.

If you stop renting or go back to the Free plan, the codes stuck up in your properties keep redirecting. Those beyond the quota of three can no longer be edited, but they still lead to their last destination.
