The call-out sticker that brings customers back to you
Heating engineers have long stuck their sticker on the boiler or the hot water cylinder. On the day it breaks down, that's where the customer looks for a number. A QR code on that sticker goes a step further: one scan opens your contact card, with a call button and an add-to-contacts option. And if your number, your address or your company name changes, the stickers already in your customers' homes stay good.
What the customer finds when they scan
Scanolo's “business card” type creates a hosted contact page that reads on any phone and that you can edit whenever you like.
If you'd rather the scan led straight to a call, the “phone” type opens a page with a single call button for your number.
- Your name, your company and your trade, with a photo or your logo.
- A call button for your main number, and up to five numbers shown.
- An email button and a link to your website.
- Your address, with directions in the maps app.
- The “Add to contacts” button, which saves the card to the phone.
Why use a dynamic code on a sticker that stays up for ten years
A boiler sticker stays in place for years. Meanwhile a number changes, the business moves, takes on a partner or gets sold. A static code freezes the number at the moment of printing. A dynamic code points to your contact card: you edit it, and every sticker already out there shows the new details.
The code keeps working even if you stop your subscription or go back to the Free plan. Beyond three codes on the Free plan, the extra ones can no longer be edited, but they still lead to their last contact card.
The scan counter tells you, day by day, whether the stickers are being used and at what time people are looking for you.
Making and placing the sticker
On an appliance, people scan up close, from 20 or 30 cm. A 2.5 to 3 cm code is enough, on a sticker of about 5 × 8 cm that also shows your name and number in plain text. Keep that number readable: not everyone scans, and a basement boiler room doesn't always have signal.
Export the code as SVG, or as vector PDF from the Starter plan up, for your label printer.
- Ask your printer for a material that copes with heat and humidity, near a boiler or a cylinder.
- A visible face of the appliance, never an air vent or the manufacturer's rating plate.
- A line under the code, such as “Breakdown? Scan to call me”.
- A test with two phones on the first sticker printed, before the full run.
One code for all your stickers, or several
The same code can go on all your stickers, and the Free plan is then enough. Several codes tell you where the scans come from: one for boilers, one for fuse boxes, one on the van. The Starter plan, at €7 excl. VAT a month with no commitment, gives you 25 codes, removes the “Made with Scanolo” mention from your card and adds vector PDF export.
On the invoice, a second code can open the review form of your Google listing directly, right when the customer is happy with the job.
Frequently asked questions
Does the customer need to install an app?
No. The camera on iPhones and most Android phones reads the code, and the card opens in the browser.
What if there's no signal near the appliance?
The page won't open without a connection, which is why it pays to keep the number written in plain text on the sticker. A static vCard code, which holds the card itself, works offline, but it can't be changed after printing.
Does the code hold any information about my customer?
No. The card only contains your details. Each scan is counted with country, device type and time, without cookies and without storing the IP address in clear.
What happens if I sell my business?
You edit the card to show the details of the business taking over, and the stickers already in place stay valid.
