Dynamic or static: how to choose

When creating a code, a mode choice appears between Dynamic and Static, with two short lines of explanation. You don't want to get it wrong, especially if the code will end up printed on a thousand flyers.

The answer

A dynamic code goes through a short Scanolo address that redirects to your content: you can change the destination after printing and see how many times it gets scanned. A static code encodes the content directly in the pattern: it works forever, even without Scanolo, but neither its content nor its stats can ever be changed.

Step by step

  1. On the creation screen, look for the Mode block right under the code's name.
  2. Pick "Dynamic" if the destination might ever change.
  3. Pick "Static" if the content is fixed and you don't need any statistics.
  4. Open "What's the difference between dynamic and static?" if you still have doubts before confirming.

When to pick dynamic mode

Dynamic mode fits anything whose destination might evolve: a menu page, a link to your social profiles, a product sheet. It counts against your plan's dynamic code quota (3 on the free plan), and it unlocks scan statistics: scan count, unique visitors, country, device.

When to pick static mode

Static mode fits content that won't change: a wifi network, a landline number, a short text. It's unlimited and free, but with no scan tracking and no way to edit it: to change anything, you have to recreate the code and reprint the artwork.

Frequently asked questions

Does a static code count against my dynamic code quota?

No. Static codes are unlimited on every plan, including the free plan.

Can I turn a static code into a dynamic one later?

No, the mode is fixed at creation. If you change your mind, recreate the code in the other mode and reprint it.
